First Grade Writing Lesson Plans – Free
We all know how hard it is to find usable downloadable First Grade writing lesson plans to use right away in your classroom. What we have done is created one for you to use “out of the box”. Specifically, this is a pre-made writing lesson plan for an autobiography lesson.
Here is an excerpt from the download itself.
Writing Lesson For First Grade Outline
Background: Students will write or dictate a 12-page autobiography to be published as a book. Select from a variety of options for preparing the text (hand writing and then entering onto website or compose directly on the website) as well as developing the illustrations for the books. For illustrations, students may upload scanned-in hand-drawn drawings, artwork or photos; use the paintable backgrounds and stickers. Use the suggestions for page topics to best suit your classroom situation and student demographics. Set a prescribed theme for each of the 12 pages, or use the suggestions as starting points. Be sensitive to the fact that not all students will have a family makeup that is simple to describe.
In addition, here is an activity flow for the days prior to the actual writing and video describing the lesson plan:
1. Share a book specifically about self-esteem, such as one of those listed in the materials section.
2. Lead discussion of the positive feelings promoted by sharing something of oneself, for example, a drawing posted on the refrigerator at home or the bulletin board at school, making a card for a friend or relative, or sending a photo to grandparents.
3. Share the exciting news that each student will make a book about themselves to share with others. The class will get one free paperback book for each child, which will be taken home by each child at the end of the writing unit. (Some schools opt to keep these free copies for the school.) In addition, families must be given the opportunity to purchase additional copies of the book.
